3rd February 2009 – Gwyneth Paltrow comments in Elle MagazineGwyneth Paltrow’s comments in Elle magazine on how she believes class C drugs (cannabis, ketamine and other tranquilizers) are typical of someone of her apparent limited experience. She said about Courtney Love, the former girlfriend of heroin addict rock star Kurt Cobain: "I don’t think she’s on Class A (heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine) narcotics anymore, maybe just Class C (cannabis, ketamaine). That’s no big deal – aren’t we all ha, ha, ha!" What Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t see is what goes on behind the scenes with this type of drug use; because it is naive to believe that all people can use these drugs and have ‘no problem’. In fact Gwyneth is describing a client group, employed people, young and old, however what she doesn’t see is the depression and anxiety that cannabis use (even at moderate levels) can cause. She won’t see the paranoia or feelings of ‘emptiness’ that would occur if you use these drugs on a daily or weekly basis. She wouldn’t know about the problems that cannabis use can cause in a relationship or the lack of productively at work. Cannabis is a drug that creates feelings of paranoia, psychosis and can lead to major mental health problems. Cannabis makes the user incoherent, lethargic and lackadaisical. They become a reflection of the qualities of the drug, the feelings the drug creates are not real. There are a lot of consequences from using Class C drugs (cannabis, ketamine and other tranquilizers) in my experience. Gwyneth Paltrow is right - you do not hear about what really happens with casual drug use, but it certainly is not ‘NOTHING’ Cannabis classification has now been changed to a Class B drug.
